The Sri Lanka–Canada Business Council (SLCBC), together with Mrs. Yasoji Gunawardana, Consul (Commercial) at the Consulate General of Sri Lanka – Toronto, held a productive meeting with Ms. Susana Vaz and Ms. Vanna Petropoulos of the City of Toronto. The discussion was further enriched by the participation of Ms. Clare Barnett, who joined despite her busy schedule.

The meeting facilitated an insightful exchange of ideas and perspectives, providing numerous takeaways for the SLCBC delegation. Discussions centered on fostering mutually beneficial business opportunities between Sri Lanka and Toronto.

Key areas of collaboration identified include:

  • Venture capital funds for SMEs
  • Trade shows and business expos in Toronto and Colombo
  • Education sector collaborations
  • Roundtable discussions on Canada–Sri Lanka business opportunities
  • Development of potential MoUs

The SLCBC will also explore opportunities to engage with Toronto-based incubators and deepen ties with Destination Toronto. To ensure smooth future communications, the Council seeks guidance on whether a single point of contact should coordinate correspondence or whether relevant Sri Lankan institutions should engage separately.

The Sri Lanka–Canada Business Council extends its sincere thanks to the City of Toronto for this opportunity and looks forward to working closely to promote lasting and mutually beneficial business collaborations.
